In May 2024 ԭζÊÓƵ published new resources to support induction and leadership.

The resources were developed following the (2022), which set out an ambition to review system wide leadership development. It was an opportunity to help the health and social care system strengthen leadership and management across both sectors in England. It was also a way to help people new to their roles to better understand what is expected of them.

Induction toolkit

The new induction toolkit has been created to help managers plan and deliver a supportive and inclusive induction for new starters at all levels across all types of roles in adult social care. It makes recommendations for managers around what to do before your new starter joins from on day one, into week one and over the following months with handy checklists.

The resources draw heavily on what providers across health and social care tell us works for them.

National induction for health and social care

ԭζÊÓƵ and NHS England have created free-to-access induction materials for anyone new to a role in health and social care.

Developed with over 2,000 staff and people who access care and support, the ‘’ brings together virtual learning modules and resources to equip new starters with a clear understanding of health and social care, helping to build a sense of belonging and support retention.

It introduces different subjects important to social care, such as how to deliver personalised care, why we have regulation, what roles we might come across in our work and what they do.

All content is available online to use as part of your induction or as a refresher for existing staff. Users will need to for a free account to access. You can do this with any email address.

The induction is intended to be used alongside organisation specific induction and doesn’t replace or duplicate the Care CertificateManager Induction Standards or formal qualifications.

Future resources

Since the release of the Messenger review, we’ve been working in collaboration with NHS England (NHSE) to develop opportunities to explore our shared values and where possible, shared learning and development.

NHSE has commissioned a consortium of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), KPMG and the Florence Nightingale Foundation to build a managers code of practice across health and social care. The new code will provide a unified and consistent base for our leadership development of managers.

We’re supporting the consortium engage with the social care sector by inviting providers and other stakeholders to attend discovery sessions to help develop the code.

The code will launched in Summer 2025.

NHSE will continue their development beyond the code and develop a framework, including standards and curriculum for health only.

At ԭζÊÓƵ, we'll explore how it will sit alongside the Care workforce pathway and how we may want to update our Leadership Qualities Framework and any other products.
